Take the Smoke-Free Home & Car Online Pledge

Smoking around others releases dangerous gases like carbon monoxide and hydrogen cyanide. These gases can be especially harmful to kids and babies whose bodies are developing. According to the MN Student Survey, over 1 in 3 kids in MN live with a smoker. For the ones you love, take it outside.

What is secondhand smoke?
Secondhand smoke is a mixture of the smoke trailing off the lit end of a cigarette, cigar or pipe, and the smoke that's exhaled by the smoker. The cloud of smoke isn't the only danger; some deadly gases present in secondhand smoke are invisible and can linger in the air for hours after the cigarette has been put out.

"I am grateful to be here today and to be able to say unequivocally that the debate is over. The science is clear: secondhand smoke is not a mere annoyance, but a serious health hazard that causes premature death and disease in children and nonsmoking adults." Surgeon General Richard Carmona, June 27, 2006

Did you know?
Your beloved pets face an increased risk of cancer because they live on carpets, rugs, and floors where deadly chemicals accumulate long after the smoke has faded.
